The Department of Biochemistry is committed to excellence in General Biochemistry education as well as teaching and research. The department is also committed to prepare undergraduate students as scientist in their professions and making them able to function competently according to the accepted national and international standards.
The demand for manpower in medical laboratories, as well as in food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries is high due to population and commercial nature of Northern Nigeria, North-eastern states and the country at large. The training in Biochemistry is focused towards producing skilled manpower to meet this demand. In addition, the demand for researchers in medicine, nutrition and natural sciences in the area are high due to the following reasons among others.
1. To provide undergraduate students with a foundational understanding of the chemical basis of biological processes. 2. To provide skills sets to critically evaluate, interpret and create biochemical informations. 3. To educate undergraduate students in life sciences through diverse experiential opportunities.
